It usually affects the central nervous system. In addition to the benign tumors that frequently occur in TSC, other common symptoms include seizures, impaired intellectual. Tuberous sclerosis complex is a genetic disorder in which the body produces benign tumors in various locations. Being that these tumors are noncancerous, they are not as much of a health concern when compared to other medical conditions in the same category. They are, however, problematic for those forced to live with this condition.

There has been significant progress in TSC research and the development of technologies used to diagnose this disorder. As a result, individuals with mild TSC are now being diagnosed, including many older adults who have not developed seizures or cognitive abnormalities. The true prevalence (the number of cases) of TSC is unknown, but its incidence (new cases) is estimated at 1 in 6, live births. On the Novartis’ website, there are two free e books available that can be read online or printed out as a pdf. There is a TSC: Turbo and Scott storybook available on the website here that is geared towards younger children with TSC.
