Girmitiyas book. Read 2 reviews from the world's largest community for readers/5. I bought this for my husband who is a descendent of the girmitiyas and was desperate for information. He was glued to the book and could talk of little else. It was good to see Girmitiyas book so happy with a gift.

The only criticism I could give is that if he knew the real cost of it he wouldn't be quite so happy. I'm very pleased despite Girmitiyas book by: Tears in Paradise -Girmit and Struggles of Indians in Fiji.

Girmitiya or Jahajis are indentured Indian labourers (modern slaves) that were brought to Fiji, Mauritius, South Africa, and the Caribbean (mostly Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, and Jamaica) to work on sugarcane plantations for the prosperity of the European settlers and save the Fijians from having to work on these plantations and thus to preserve their culture.
